About

It all started when I was a teenager and was a proud owner of one of the almost affordable home computers that appeared in the early 1980’s. It became my hobby in my teen years, so it was natural for me to study computing in further education once my school days were complete.

For over twenty years I worked in IT, first as an engineer fixing computers, and then as a programmer. I worked for large financial organisations, and worked on some pretty good and interesting projects.

All the time I felt that I would like to do something more creative with my hands rather than something creative with my brain (yes, I do feel programming is very creative but something that is hidden from almost everybody).

The chance arouse for a change of career, and I attended a year long furniture making course. This wasn’t my first experience at making furniture. I had made various items for myself, family and friends, so I knew it is something I enjoyed doing.

So now I am a maker of bespoke boxes and furniture (my furniture making website is separate from this site).

Some of the boxes I make are commissioned pieces, and are made for a specific purpose. Other boxes I make as speculative pieces or as small batches. These I sell at exhibitions and galleries around the country, and on-line via the box gallery pages on this website.

I am also a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, an organisation that was founded in 1887, that promotes and supports the work of creative thinkers, designers and makers who innovate through their exploration of materials and skills.

If you are interested in having a jewellery box made to commission, or interested in a box you have seen on this site, then please feel free to contact me for more information.
